Employment
Pine
Hauliers is much more than just a timber transport company.
Established in 1970 with just 6 staff and 4 machines our company
has grown and now employs over 70 people with 40 vehicles
and harvests over half a million tonnes of plantation timber
a year.
Safety
Safety is paramount in all Pine Hauliers operations. Steep
sided valleys, large trees, heavy vehicles, and long trucks
– all require a total commitment to safety. Alcohol
and drug use is not tolerated and all workers in the field
are required to wear personal protective equipment. When outside
of vehicles this includes hard hats, high visibility vests
and steel capped boots. Three-point contact is always maintained
when accessing elevated platforms. Regular toolbox meetings,
on site and at our workshops, ensure that all safety concerns
are highlighted, discussed and dealt with.
Our vehicles are well maintained to ensure their safe operation
and reliability. At the start of every shift a walk around
safety check is conducted. Any faults are immediately reported
to the safety officer and maintenance department. It is vital
that loads be secure – they are inspected closely to
ensure they are tied down properly before transport. In addition,
truck drivers are required to stop and check loads and brakes
before descending steep hills. Forestry and heavy haulage
is a very visible activity and the conduct of our operators
is very important.
